Why art is important to me. A love letter.

Updated: Sep 26

For me, viewing art isn't just a pastime; it's a way of life. It's a window into the world, a source of inspiration and a constant companion. I spend my days seeking out new artist studios, exhibitions and galleries to explore and have even used my passion for art as a catalyst for a whole mid life career change! The act and enjoyment of viewing art has enriched my life in so many ways and I am in awe of the profound impact it can have on anyone who chooses to embrace an art filled life.

From the grand masterpieces of the old masters to the contemporary works of emerging artists, art has the power to move, inspire, and challenge us.  Art can shape our perspective, fuel our creativity, and connect us to others in so many ways. I have a few thoughts on why I feel art is important to the human race that I wanted to try and unpick

Art is more than a mirror; it's a lens that magnifies the beauty and complexity of life. It challenges us to see beyond the surface, to embrace the nuances of human experience and to find meaning in even the most ordinary moments.

In the ebb and flow of life, art offers a steady anchor. It transforms pain into profound beauty and elevates joy into something eternal. It connects us all to others across time and space, reminding us of our shared humanity.

For me art inspires by showcasing both the extraordinary and the mundane. It nurtures compassion, provides solace, and fuels imagination. Art isn't just a bystander; it's a partner on my journey, a perpetual fount of inspiration for the endless possibilities that await.

I'm drawn to the unique mark an artist's hand leaves on their work. Surrounding myself with the art of others and their reflections of life and emotions, helps me feel understood, grounded and connected to something greater.

How about you? Does art speak to you in this way? I would love to know your experience of viewing art and how it can make you feel. Let me know in the comments!
