Some London Art Shows I am really looking forward to in 2025…
For many years I visited galleries as a primary teacher and art specialist to research artists and get inspiration for exciting new topics to teach. Later, I took my own children to galleries so they could take part in the workshops and hopefully gain an appreciation for creativity and an understanding of different cultures (and for a relatively cheap day out!)
It was only recently that I realised that the REAL reason I was keen to visit the galleries is that they are actually my happy place! I love nothing more than stepping foot into those hallowed spaces filled with the promise of creative and cultural enlightenment. I love the scale of the big London galleries, the stone steps and the ornate cornicing. The vast rooms and high ceilings. I love gallery shops and the cafes but most of all I love losing myself in the magic of art before stepping back outside to the bustling streets of the big smoke.
Here are a handful of colourful shows that I hope to visit London* to see this year.
*I am also researching shows outside of London, UK and further afield, blogs to come soon.

It promises to be an Art Show full of colour!
In the early 20th century, a wave of creativity swept across Brazil. This exhibition features a diverse range of artists, including:
Pioneers: Anita Malfatti, who spearheaded the movement and Tarsila do Amaral, a renowned figure in Brazilian Modernism.

Making History: Rachel Jones at Dulwich Picture Gallery
In a groundbreaking move, Rachel Jones is set to make history as the first contemporary artist to have a solo exhibition in the main space of the renowned Dulwich Picture Gallery. Known for her bold and vibrant explorations of identity, This is a must-see event for art lovers and a significant moment for contemporary art in London.
Rachel Jones is an artist who dives deep into the human experience, exploring themes of abstraction and life through a vibrant and multi-faceted approach. Her work isn't just about painting; it's a symphony of colour, texture, and emotion that engages all the senses.
Jones's process is deeply intuitive. She builds up layers of oil stick and oil pastel, blending with her hands to create unique and often unexpected colour combinations. The result? Stunning, sensory landscapes that evoke a wide range of emotions in the viewer.
A recurring motif in Jones's work is the mouth. This fascinating body part holds immense significance – historical, cultural, and deeply personal. It's a literal portal of course but also a powerful metaphor for communication, expression and the inner self. Jones uses the mouth as a starting point to explore the unspoken emotions that reside within us all.
