An explosion of energy, focusing on the colours and recreating the feeling of the subject matter; Danielle’s pieces inhabit somewhere between abstract and landscape.
Bristol based artist Danielle Neill seeks to bring more colour and happiness into your everyday life! Her work is an explosion of energy inspired mainly by the Abstract Expressionism movement.
Danielle works in an acrylic medium applying the paint onto the canvas with a mixture of brushes, sponges and even her own hands. Focusing on the colours and recreating the feeling of the subject matter, Danielle’s pieces inhabit somewhere between abstract and landscape.
Her work is inspired by the photographs and sketches she captures whilst out and about, surrounded by nature and often by the coast. She then immerses herself in these images in her studio, pinning them all around; each piece comes from an amalgamation of photographic images, observational studies and field notes culminating in an imaginary dreamscape. From there, she abstracts the subject matter further by pairing key shapes and colour combinations to create each visually stunning abstract work.
Danielle often paints spontaneously, working with the colours as they appear on the canvas and reacting to them. Without focusing too much on the subject at first, instead playing with the placement, brush marks and colours to see where this takes the artwork. This results in multiple sections of colour building up in each painting, with layers underneath still revealed in part, giving a true sense of depth to the work.
She works very fast on the canvas giving movement and life to the piece, evident in the paint drips and brush marks. Although the initial painting process can sometimes be quick, Danielle often leaves time and space to sit with each painting, adjusting it in various settings before feeling completely satisfied it is finished.
